MTV International announced today that it has greenlit a new social-first show, Single AF, that will take celebrities around the world in a search for love.
Live filming kicks off next week, and the show will play out across social channels like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat, with fans being able to not only follow along but also influence the path the celebrities take on their quest.
“It will be a truly social dating series where anything’s possible—from challenging our singles to use their social channels to directly source dates, to asking their followers to make suggestions on who to date or even participate in the game themselves,” Kerry Taylor, CMO Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) & SVP, Youth & Music, MTV International, tells Found Remote. “We’ll be following the cast for two weeks around the world, an experience that will be captured and broadcast exclusively on digital—with content produced throughout that will make up part of the events that will unfold in the linear show later this year.”
Participating celebrities include American Teen Mom Farrah Abraham, Irish popstars Jedward, Geordie Shore star Marnie Simpson, English YouTube star Elliot Crawford, Australian drag superstar Courtney Act and London boyband alumna Casey Johnson. The celebs will check in with their fans to seek suggestions on who to date, and at the end of the two weeks traveling, the seven singles will take their top choice to a villa in Europe, where the whole group will spend time together.
MTV knows a thing or two about dating formats, but Single AF is especially compelling because the social integrations are so integral to the show.
“Social media has changed everything about our personal experiences from the way we consume media to the way we perceive people, including increasingly how our audience dates,” says Taylor. “It makes sense to integrate social platforms into the ‘Single AF’ journey that our daters will experience, because that’s naturally where they already are. We are constantly experimenting with formats and new ways to involve our fans in our content at MTV International, and think this will be a fun approach that lets them weigh in directly (or appear on the show themselves!).”
Single AF is produced by Gobstopper TV.
