Comedy Central International makes digital push with new DEFY Media partnership

Comedy Central International (CCI) yesterday announced a partnership with DEFY Media to co-produce 10 new episodes of the SMOSH series Every Blank Ever for CCI’s digital platforms (including YouTube). SMOSH and ScreenJunkies are two of DEFY Media’s most popular brands, and as part of the deal, CMI will also distribute 25 episodes of the ScreenJunkies series Honest Trailers.

“We are big fans of DEFY, and their SMOSH and ScreenJunkies brands,” Claire McArdle, Vice President, Comedy Central International Multiplatform, told Found Remote. “We are always on the hunt for great content, and Every Blank Ever is a fantastic format.  We are working with the SMOSH team to create entirely original episodes that bring new topics to life, featuring a Comedy Central International cast.  And, each episode will incorporate our particular take and flavor as well.  With Honest Trailers, we’re working to deliver some great, evergreen content, in a new way, to our young and engaged audiences on our social platforms.”

The partnership is an effort on CMI’s part to expand its offerings, complementing its linear portfolio with digital-first offerings that already have an existing fan base.

“At Comedy Central International we deliver content that connects with our audience everywhere they are – that means serving platform specific, digital originals in addition to linear series,” continued McArdle. “This joins an already solid slate of digital-first series, which includes short-form original content like Bad Snappers, Absolutely Fine and more.”
